Crime Scene Report

Crime:       Murder

Victim:      Ms. Monica Cooper

Location: The Night Falls General Hospital, Night Falls

Filed by:   Detective Jimmy Pond

Background

The evening before the victim died, her grandfather, Mr. Joe Cooper, had a heart attack during the regular family dinner. Also present at the dinner were:

  • Kathy Nichols, Joe’s girlfriend.

  • Joe’s son Ronald and his wife Florence.

  • Joe’s son Oliver, his wife Helen, and their daughter Jessica.

The family doctor, Roy Patterson, was called along with an ambulance. Kathy, Oliver, and Dr. Patterson accompanied Joe to the hospital. Ronald, Florence, Helen, and Jessica also went to the hospital. No one except the doctor saw Joe that evening and were told to come back the following day during visiting hours, which began at 10:00 am.

The next day all the suspects arrived at the hospital at various times. 3 other band members who traveled back to Night Falls with Monica went home and did not come to the hospital. They are not suspects.

Investigation

I was called to The Night Falls General Hospital around 3:20 pm the day after Mr. Cooper’s heart attack. Ms. Monica Cooper was found dead in room #716B, the unoccupied room next to her grandfather in room #716A. She was found by her boyfriend Adam Bentley, band manager Kevin Banks, and longtime friend Betty Olsen a little after 3:00 pm.

Ms. Cooper and her bandmates had driven overnight from out of state to be at the hospital. Dr. Patterson had given Ms. Cooper permission to use room #716B to nap or freshen up.

Ms. Cooper was found in the bed like she was sleeping peacefully. However, the room told a different story with items strewn around indicating there had been a struggle.

The cause of death was not immediately obvious. Close inspection of Ms. Cooper revealed a small wound to the left side of her head, but not substantial enough to cause death. There was also what appeared to be a small puncture wound to the right side of her neck. We’ll have to wait for the Coroner’s Report to confirm the exact time and cause of Ms. Cooper’s death.

Items collected at the scene include a bottle of pills, a syringe, a candy bar wrapper, a pillow, a lamp, and a USB cord. These items are with forensics who will release any findings in due course.
